Accessible calendar app Fantastical switches to a subscription model

Fantastical has long been a popular alternative to Apple's native Calendar app for many users. Its accessibility also made it very popular for blind and visually impaired people. Now, it has shifted from a one-time purchase model to one based on a monthly or yearly subscription.

The new apps introduce feature parity across the Mac, iOs, iPad, and Watch OS versions of the software. Rather than needing to purchase the app on all devices, the new subscription gives you access to the app wherever you are for $4.99 monthly or $39.99 per year.

The new app provides very limited functionality without a subscription-- according to the verge, you cannot even add events without the premium version of the app. However, if you have previously purchased Fantastical 2 on any platform, you will receive any features included in Fantastical 2 that have since been made premium for free.

The new versions also add new features. You can now invite your friends to meetings and suggest times, even if they don't use Fantastical. Additionally, tasks in Todoist and Google Tasks now show up in Fantastical as well. Zoom integration lets you add and join zoom meetings from the app. Weather forecasts and meeting invites also show up directly in Fantastical. A new feature, Interesting Calendars, lets you add calendars for tv shows, sports, and other such activities from the app.

Updating Fantastical from the app store of your device will enable you to access Fantastical 3 and upgrade to the subscription.
