#CSUN16 Audio: Amazon Reaffirms Its Commitment to Accessibility

In this extensive interview, J.J. speaks with Peter Korn, Accessibility Architect at Amazon. Peter frankly talks about previous mis-steps Amazon has made in the area of accessibility, and where the company is currently headed in that regard. Along with a discussion of the Amazon Echo, JJ examines Amazon's newest Fire OS tablet running the company's VoiceView screen reader.

I might have to buy a basic Fire tablet to have a look at this firsthand. From the help docs it does look like they kept the clunky l-shaped gestures for some reason, and the keyboard accessibility looks like they ripped off the Swipe keyboard when used with Talkback. I'm intrigued enough to buy one though, especially at the low prices they want. The only thing holding me back really is that my apps all come from Google Play and the ones I purchased will have to be purchased again for Fire, if they're even available.

Was there any discussion of using VoiceView on the FireTV? It already features the Alexa interface and a voice input remote control. It seems logical to do this as it would make this box perfect for those who are blind and use Amazon prime etc
