Apple no longer relying on underlying 3rd party navigation for maps app

Apple recently released a new version of its Maps app. Along with a few new features, Apple also begins using its own navigation system.

Apple has relied on TomTom for its navigation data since 2012. In the latest version of Apple Maps, however, the company has switched to its own domestic mapping data. The new navigation system is expected to roll out to European countries in 2020.

Other new features rolling out across the U.S. include access to Apples Look Around feature, similar to Google Maps' Street View, faster navigation, real-time transit updates, and access to favorite places.
