Twitter Realizes it Needs to Make Money, will Begin to Roll Out Ads

We all knew this day would come, and now it's confirmed. Twitter will begin to sprinkle in ads into their results over the coming weeks. Initially, a singular ad will be shown at the top of search results. Much like Google, advertisers can bid on various keywords to display a 140-character ad for a price. Of potential interest to developers is the future opportunity to show ads in third-party Twitter clients, perhaps the most common way the service is accessed. It will be interesting to see if developers opt to embrace the model for a proposed cut of the revenue or support their software with other means. The roll-out seems very deliberate, perhaps after the oversaturation of ads on competing web 2.0 sites such as Facebook. Via Ad Age
