Now, here’s J.J. Meddaugh.
J.J. MEDDAUGH: Here at ACB 2018. We’ve brought back Alice Lynch, who is the owner and designer, manufacturer for Braille Design, some really cool jewelry. Alice, welcome back to the podcast.
ALICE LYNCH: Good to be here.
JM: So you were telling me you have some new stuff here. Go ahead and tell me a little bit about what you have.
AL: Well, our new thing is our Puppy Love collection.
JM: Aww.
AL: We have necklaces that have the silhouettes of either a yellow lab, a – the other lab is silver, so it could be any color you like.
JM: Uh-huh.
AL: And also German shepherds and golden retrievers.
JM: Okay. So these are necklaces, or how are they worn?
AL: Those are necklaces. They come with a couple of other charms. We can personalize them for you by putting the dog’s name on there if you like, in braille. And -- which is pretty cool.
JM: Uh-huh.
AL: And they are on a leather cord, and it’s adjustable so you can make it any length you want to wear it.
JM: When you say personalize them with braille, how much room is there for the braille lettering.
AL: We’ve got about enough room for up to seven spaces.
JM: Okay.
AL: Seven cells.
JM: So you can get most dog names, and I guess some of the really –
AL: Most of them.
JM: -- really long names, you might have to abbreviate a little bit, but you can make it –
AL: We can usually make it work somehow. If we have to put it on there diagonal, sometimes we can do that.
JM: Sure. Sure. What are some of the things you guys are showing here?
AL: This year, we started doing T-shirts. And we have a T-shirt down here that – it has braille on it that is in a puff paint, so it’s actually tactile braille.
JM: Yeah.
AL: Unless – I know you’ve probably heard of all these things online when they print the braille, and it’s flat. Well ours is not flat, so we are now going to offer a service where we can do sets of T-shirts. If we have at least 15 people that want the same thing, we can print it up. We can do graphics into braille.
JM: So that’s very cool. So people can pick a custom message or design. You said if you have 15 or more, you can get it on a T-shirt?
AL: Right. You can just contact us, Alice@brailledesign.com, you can take a look at our website. And we’ll be happy to do a custom design for you. So you’ve got a camp or you’ve got your state convention or something like that and you want to do a tactile braille T-shirt, we can do it for you.
JM: Awesome. What kind of prices are you looking at for doing the shirts?
AL: We would look at them being about – retailing for 25 dollars.
JM: That ain’t bad at all. And do you have some here already; T-shirts that you’re selling?
AL: We’ve got a few. We kind of – this first run, and we have half of them, we already mailed out.
JM: What do they say on them, the ones that you have here?
AL: This one says never rest, be persistent, that famous saying that Mitch McConnell said to Elizabeth Warren.
JM: Awesome.
AL: So –
JM: Okay. Great. So once again, you said brailledesign.com if you want to get more information; correct?
AL: That’s right.
JM: Awesome. Do you have a phone number?
A Yes. It’s – I have to stop and think because I never call it.
JM: You don’t call yourself?
AL: I don’t call myself. (870) 219-0176. And please leave me a message, because I don’t live with my phone in my pocket, so --
JM: And you’re here right now.
AL: And I’m here right now. Come by and see me at Booth 47.
JM: There you go. Thank you so much, Alice.
AL: Thanks. Appreciate it.
