A Blind Legend, Eye-D Among Google Play Award Nominees for Accessibility


The Google Play Awards, which recognize the best in Android apps, include an accessibility category and the nominees have been announced
The awards recognize achievements in 12 categories ranging from Best Multiplayer Game to Best VR Experience. The accessibility category features 5 nominees including a couple which specifically target the blind and visually impaired.

Best Accessibility Nominees

  • IFTTT by IFTTT - Free
    Lets you control hundreds of devices and services using triggers. In addition to providing for accessibility by automation, the app itself has become quite accessible with TalkBack.

  • A Blind Legend by Dowino - Free with in-app purchases
    You play as Edward Blake, the famous blind knight in an immersive, audio-based world. Explore the High Castle Kingdom and battle and fight off your enemies using your sword and shield.

  • Eye-D -for visually impaired by GingerMind Technologies - Free
    A GPS navigator, object identifier, and OCR reader in a single app. As the developers put it, "a complete solution that assists VI’s in their daily life."

  • SwiftKey Symbols by SwiftKey Greenhouse - Free
    Designed to help people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities communicate through the use of symbols instead of text.

  • Open Sesame! Touch Free Access by Sesame Enable - Free with in-app purchases
    Allows users to control many aspects of the phone and apps using head-based movements and the front-facing camera.
