Blio for PC released: Does not Support Screen-Readers

KNFB Reading Technology, Inc. has released Blio for Windows PC's. Blio is a free book-reading application that presents e-books just like the printed version. Blio currently has a library of over 1 million paid and free titles. However, it seems that this current version does not support screen-access software. According to the download page, an accessible version of the program will be released in October.

Is this some kind of joke? KNFB reading technologies, producing inaccessible software? What is this? They've shown off several demos of an accessible version. At this point, I'm starting to think they're playing with us and am getting tired of it!

This is absolutely disheartening, but my inner sinic kind of expected something like this to happen. From monitoring the website over the past few months, I knew that they were trying to emphasize features in Blio which would appeal to a sighted audience. However, to completely ignore accessibility in the initial release is completely unacceptable. Even though there is probably nothing that we can do in order to make them push out an accessible version early, we should write and express our displeasure with the situation.

K-NFB is a privately held company dedicated to developing cutting-edge solutions that continually revolutionize access to the printed word for all readers, from a variety of mobile and fixed platforms. Apparently not on day one however! Can we really depend on the promise of an accessible version in October after so many release dates have been missed? It is difficult for me to express how disappointed I am in KNFB Reading Technology!
