HumanWare Releases Deaf Blind Communicator App for iOS Devices, Available now for $99.99

HumanWare has released the HumanWare Communicator, an app designed to allow a sighted person to comunicate to a deaf blind individual using an iOS device and a braille display. The deaf blind individual writes messages on the bluetooth braille display, and the sighted person is able to respond using the touch keyboard. All interaction appears both on
the deaf-blind person’s refreshable Braille display, as well as visually on the screen of the iOS device. The HumanWare Comunicator app costs $99.99, and is available now from the iTunes app store.

Humanware has no shame. It is outrageous to charge such a high price for such a piece of software, when the hardware used is already doing most of the work.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but why exactly does one need a special app to do this? Any text writing program that's accessible to Voiceover would do this just as well and, if a deaf blind person is going to use a Braille display with their iOS device, they have to have Voiceover turned on in order to drive said display already as Braille devices are not supported natively by the iOS Bluetooth stack.
