Freedom Scientific has announced the Pearl, a portable camera OCR solution that works with version 9 of their OpenBook scanning software. The Pearl camera costs $1,195, and OpenBook 9 is priced at $995. Both products will be available in May. A special introductory price for the Pearl camera is available for $600 until July 15. Previous OpenBook customers can upgrade to OpenBook version 9 for $150. Stay tuned to Blind Bargains for a hands-on look at this device from the CSUN 2010 conference.Source: Go to source
My question is, do you have to use the Pearl, with your PC? or is it have open book loaded into it, making it totaly portible.

Uh, a camera that costs more than a computer, coupled with software that costs more than a computer? More proof, if we needed it, that FS has gone around the twist.

@roosterloop: The way it's worded, it sounds as if it works in conjunction with Openbook, not that it has Openbook built in. Not very portable, even with a netbook. Further, I'm sure in typical FS fashion that it will work with Openbook and *only* Openbook, and I'm not paying $999 for that let alone another $1200 for a camera that only works with one product. $1199 for a camera? What is it, an hd camcorder or something?
